Kingston Carton Achieves FSC and PEFC Certification

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world's forests.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, nongovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world's forests. It was founded in 1993 in response to public concern about deforestation and demand for a trustworthy wood-labelling scheme. FSC has developed a system of forest certification and product labelling that allows consumers to identify wood and wood-based products from well-managed forests.

In addition to forest certification, the FSC system includes a certified chain of custody that tracks the timber through every stage in the supply chain from the forest to the final user. This is monitored through the invoicing process and the final label on the product has a code that confirms that the item is genuinely FSC. Codes can be verified by contacting FSC UK.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) monitors the use of timber in paper and board based products, ensuring that material used is coming from sustainable sources. The FSC Chain of Custody certification tracks the FSC certified material through the production process all the way to the store. Kingston Carton Company Ltd are FSC certified and our licence number is: C833747

If you require a copy of either certificate please contact Mr Gary Tebbutt (garyt@kingstoncarton.co.uk)

PEFC bases its understanding of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) on the definition adopted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and originally developed by Forest Europe, which defines SFM as:

"The stewardship and use of forests and forest lands in a way, and at a rate, that maintains their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and their potential to fulfil, now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic and social functions, at local, national, and global levels, and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems."

PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for the highest ecological, social and ethical standards. Thanks to its eco-label, customers and consumers are able to identify products from sustainably managed forests.

PEFC certification provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests. Kingston Carton Company Ltd are PEFC Certified and our licence number is : 16-33-1827
